Miss A's Future Unknown as Min Leaves JYP Entertainment

The K-pop shakeup of 2017 continues, with miss A’s Min leaving her group’s agency at the end of her contract term with the Korean label.

On Wednesday (Nov. 8), JYP Entertainment confirmed that Min (Lee Min-Young) opted out of renewing her contract with the company. Yonhap reported that the company also said that the group’s future is still to-be-determined in light of her departure from the agency.

Miss A was formed in 2010 as a quartet and and saw major success with their early tracks, like the sassy "Bad Girl Good Girl" and the quirky "Breathe," while the sensual "Touch" and the girl power anthem "I Don't Need a Man" led to further popularity. They last promoted as group in 2015 with the release of Colors and their ‘80s-tinged, brassy hip-pop track “Only U.”

Last year saw Jia leave the act to pursue a solo career in China, turning the group into a trio. With Min choosing to exit from JYP Entertainment, the girl group becomes one of several top female Korean acts, alongside Girls’ Generation and T-Ara, to see member departures from their label leave the team’s future up in the air.

While Min’s departure from JYP Entertainment leaves both her career and miss A’s fate hanging, the girl group’s other members both have fallbacks: Both Suzy and Fei have released solo EPs, and the former is one of South Korea's most popular young actresses.
