If you are looking for building a website or installing WordPress to build your personal blog / website, you should have heard of HostGator Web hosting Company. HostGator is one of the most popular web hosting companies in the world. It is another Endurance Group’s brand like it’s sister companies Bluehost, HostMonster, Fatcow, JustHost, Ipage etc… In this HostGator Review I’ll mention the top Pros and Cons of HostGator Hosting.
HostGator Web Hosting Pros
1. Many hosting choices
HostGator offers many different Hosting services and hosting plans that suit for anyone. They offer Shared Web Hosting for small sites, Reseller Hosting, Virtual Personal Servers (VPS) Hosting, Managed WordPress Hosting, and Dedicated Web Hosting.
The most common hosting service is Shared Hosting; HostGator offers three Shared Hosting plans: Hatchling Plan (The most popular), Baby Plan, and Business Plan.
2. Low hosting prices
Another good thing about HostGator is their low hosting prices considering the services they provide. If you choose Baby Plan which has unlimited hosting resources, you’ll need to pay around $4 monthly only. Not to mention that they have a 25% OFF for WP-ME users.
They have anther hosting plan that’s even cheaper, this plan called “Hatchling Plan” which offers unmetered (unlimited) bandwidth and supports only 1 domain (one site only).
3. Unlimited Hosting
HostGator offers unlimited hosting resources, they offer unlimited disk, unlimited domains (Hatchling plan not included), unlimited space, unlimited bandwidth, unlimited database, unlimited subdomains, unlimited FTP accounts etc.
4. Hosting Uptime
HostGator guarantees 99.9% uptime, (this is equivalent to 8 hours of downtime per year), but many customers didn’t report any downtime with them. It’s very good in comparison to GoDaddy which guarantees the same uptime but some users have documented more than 10 hours of downtime in a single month.
5. Free site transfer
If you want to transfer your website from another hosting company to HostGator, you don’t need to worry about that as they have a pretty service where they will transfer your entire website from the other company to their servers for FREE. You just need to give them your old hosting info (this is after signing up with them), then their techs will take a couple of hours before moving your site to their servers.
6. 1-Click Installs
If you don’t have a website yet, you may use their 1-click install service, so you can install WordPress in less than 1 minute.
7. cPanel control panel
HostGator uses cPanel to run your web hosting backend, it is the most common used webhosting panel (unlike GoDaddy and 1&1). cPanel is the most popular panels for managing hosting accounts, it’s also has a lot of documentation and you can get help anywhere on the internet.
8. Many Payment methods
HostGator accepts payments via credit cards, PayPal, checks, money orders, cash and bank wires.
9. Green Web Hosting
Another thing that you may not be interested in is that HostGator is a Green Web Hosting, the energy running HostGator’s DataCenter is coming from Texas wind farms, not a big coal plant. I mentioned this point in this HostGator Review as there are some people (including me) care about the environment, and I hope you’re one of them.
HostGator Web Hosting Cons
1. Pricey Domains
If you purchase your site’s domain name through HostGator.com, you need to know that it will be charged more money. So I recommends that you purchase the domain through Godaddy or NameCheap.
2. HostGator Customer Support
HostGator has outstanding hosting customer services (24/7/365); you can reach their customer service via online chat, phone, and email. This is a chat between me “Ahmed” (a non-US resident) and their representative “Alexandar S” at 6:56 PM GMT
The question was: “How do I pay if I don’t have a credit card and my country dose not support PayPal?”
after waiting for about 5 minutes watching this message: ”
We’ll Be Right With You!We are experiencing higher than normal chat volume. We will be with you as soon as possible, but please consider submitting a ticket or calling us instead.”
another message appeared telling me:
“Your expected wait time is about 20 minutes.“
it’s now 7:08 PM, and I’m still waiting….
it’s now 7:15 PM, and It tells me that I still have to wait for 7 minutes 
….
….
Finally I had an answer, it’s now 7:23 PM.

As you see, my experience with their customer support was not very good as I needed to wait for 27 minutes before getting answer, although many people didn’t have my personal experience.
3. Complex cPanel
As you saw above; HostGator’s Hosting Control Panel (cPanel) has too many info. and many users don’t need them, and this makes it hard to navigate through the control panel.
4. A lot of hosted websites
You may think that I need to put this point in HostGator’s Pros in this HostGator Review, but you need to know that HostGator is a crowded hosting company; it has more than 9 million domain hosting, this might affect the performance of those site on the company’s shared hosting.
5. Relocation of DataCenter
In early 2014, HostGator has moved their hosting servers from Texas to a new datacenter in Utah, the performance of the hosting might be affected by this movement.
HostGator Review Conclusion
The overall conclusion of our HostGator Review is that, HostGator is a great web hosting company for those who looks for building a micro-niche sites for making money from Google AdSense as you can host many sites on the same hosting plan with it’s unlimited hosting resources. But if you’re looking for a hosting company that can handle a big WordPress site I recommends hosting your site with a company like Bluehost especially their Managed WordPress Hosting, or a company like SiteGround.
